Seed: Outtakes

Styleframing
During spring and summer 2015, munich based Aixsponza asked me to join them for a weird little gem of a short film which should become Seed. I started in march, doing concept work, layouts and style frames. As production went on, I took care of setting up individual scenes, a bit of modeling & simulation and a whole lot of lighting/shading/rendering.

As with most bigger (and smaller) projects, layout consist of churning out visual ideas and throwing away lots of them. Some make it to the final cut, some don't. That's just how layout is - I guess.

Here are some of the bits (and bytes) that got cut out during production and some initial layouts that were developed further and did make it into the film.
Quick & dirty voxel sculpt done in 3D Coat, shaded and rendered in Cinema 4D & Octane to give it the appearance of molten baroque porcellain tableware.
Modified 3D Scan of a tree bark that if found somewhere on the Internet. Aiming at giving it the appearance of it being infected with a technoid parasite.
Ah! Baroque á la St. Petersburg! Originally intended as environment for surreal 3D scans, this cathedral (or museum or whatever you like to call it) didn't quite make it into the final cut.
Abusing Cinema's hair module to yield some paperlike feather structure.
This idea acctually did make it into the final film. Circle packing done with Cinema 4D's Thinking Particles, Dynamics and rendered in Octane.
Glitching up one of the amazing 3D scans the guys from GOTOXY provided us with.
... aaand of course there was the chance for some GPU-Workstation building!
All in all I guess I was extremely lucky to be at the right place at the right time. The team I've been working with was a massively talented bunch of people with an awesome sense of humour and the stamina to pull this off.
