Inspired by medieval bestiaries, where animals are often inaccurately illustrated based on verbal description one person said to another, this project creates a compendium of twisted animal illustrations purely from crowdsourced verbal material. I asked my followers on tumblr to describe a real animal, living or extinct, then I visualise them in my own interpretation.

"A rotund animal almost completely covered in a mud-colored carapace, like a cuirass that articulate in two places where the needle-like tail starts. This shell encases most of its features, beside three small eyes. The bare underbelly reveals five pairs of reddish thin clawed legs surrounding the mouth, followed by rows of gray gills and finally the tail that darkens near the tip. The rim of the middle segment of the shell is ostentatiously lined with spikes, probably for a defensive purpose."

"I have a short, fat body with a very long, tapering tail. My front legs are short and have long claws, while my back legs are stubby, round and flat, and have shorter claws. My head is wide at the base but tapers out in a triangle-like shape. Best of all, you’d think I should be furry, but no- I’m coated with big, plate-like scales."

"Feathered pear shaped animal with iridescent blue body. Small scaly legs and clawed feet. Has wings, but they are usually tucked in. On the top of its head there are some small protruding feathers. From its rear protrude large feathers colored blue and green, forming the shape of a fan twice the size of its body. The ends of the feathers look like eyes."

"This animal is four legged, with a sloped almost hunch back, and black spots on yellow brown fur. They have medium sized pointed ears, and a kinda short thick snout filled with sharp teeth. They have forward pointing, black eyes, a medium sized tail and a mane running down their back."

"This reddish/brown creature has a front segment that has flowed into a stretched, straight neck with a little oblong-shaped head on top with small beady eyes. And a pair of jawlike fanged projections folds down against the neck. Eight extremely thin, long legs sprouted from its thorax. It has ant-like, bloated abdomen."
