Backstory
As the only Graphic Design class in whole of Europe, my class at Westerdals Oslo ACT were given a real breif from Coca Cola Norge AS. This year (2015) Coca Cola are celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the famous contour bottle. Coca Cola wished to celebrate ”100 years of happiness” by giving us the opportunity to design a full sleave for a limited edition of their famous bottle. We were only asked to understand their brand, develop a strong concept and interpret what ”100 years of happiness” could mean. We were divided into groups of 3 to compete in this competition.

Grand Prize
Our team (Anna Ducros, Håvard Andestad Langmoen & Haider Ahmad) ended up winning the competition and we recieved a magnificent prize and great exposure for any designer.
- 25 000,- Norwegian Kroner
- Our design got produced in a limited number
- Coca Cola organized a great exhibition at Østbanehallen in Oslo, Norway
- Our design will go on to be exhibited in their headquarters and museum in Atlanta, USA
- Several articles in Norwegian media

Concept
Dancing is something that runs through all cultures and every generations as something to use during celebrations and happiness. What could be more appropriate at a 100th anniversary than that? We wanted to celebrate the bottle as well as focusing on the past 100 years and Coca Colas position in history. Because of this, we named our concept – 100 years of celebration.
Our concept is based on important years for the contour bottle and illustrates these using dances that were relevant to the current year. Eg. Foxtrot is used in 1915 - the year the contour bottle was produced and the year Harry Fox (originator of the dance) first danced on Broadway. The iconic pose from Saturday Night Fever is used in 1977 when the movie came out and the contour bottle became proprietary. To clarify the relationship between the contour bottle and the dances, we also included a little hint about what happened that year in the illustrations. Eg. In 1923 they’re holding a sixpack, since that was the year they launched tha sixpack, and in 1966 the dancers are holding a can, since that was the first year for the Coca Cola can.

Jury Statement
”We are very happy to announce that your project won 2015 Coca-Cola “100 years of Happiness” design contest for students.

We were enchanted by the level of your creativity, engagement and understanding of the brand identity and values. We loved the way you captured the essence of the brief and illustrated how young people were celebrating throughout the various decades and how Coca-Cola was always present.

We find your graphics fresh but sophisticated, and we believe they add an artistic and bohemian touch to our bottle. We are convinced it will be interesting for people to watch it at the exhibition, as they can enjoy all the details and amusing elements you’ve included in your design.”
