Asia Pacific Design Library

ASSESSMENT BRIEF
We were to get into pairs and redesign the Asia Pacific Design Library at the State Library of Queensland. During our initial site visit, my partner and I noted that the building is located right on the Brisbane River and has amazing city views, yet the current floor plan did not utilize them. The staff also kept reinforcing how the library content is focused solely on the Asia Pacific region, however we could not see an asian influence in the interior design of the space.

The floor plan was changed entirely to address the issues. By doing this we were able to utilize the city views and allow natural light to stream into the interior space. We created a subtle link to the Asia Pacific through the angled walls and shelving units - which were inspired by orientlal patterns. This particular set out also provides private working and reading spaces, while still allowing collaborative working and learning.
