ASSESSMENT BRIEF:
We were to choose a demographic and design a hotel for them in the middle of Brisbane city. The hotel was to fit into the existing space and only allow one extra floor (max. 2 story buildling), a minimum of 3 rooms and also a social space that would be the primary money maker. We had an exemplar designer to take inspiration from, mine was Joel Sanders. I was inspired by his use of materials and simplistic, geometric design.
I chose to do a hotel for backpackers, with an organic juice bar on the ground floor. The entire hotel was designed around communal and social interaction - as that is what backpackers do and are used to. The front wall of the space is primarily glass allowing the energetic city vibes into the space, with timber batons for privacy purposes. Also along the front wall is a long void allowing the guests on the top floor to look down onto the dining space.
