“Cebr” is a set for drinking and serving water at home or at a restaurant.
The idea for a project came from a research about history and technology of water purification. I found information about ancient sailors, who, when setting out for long sea journeys, were storing drinking water in charred wooden barrels. This practice was still in use in the 18th Century for extending the use of potable water on long sea voyages. This was the effect of creating a thin layer of adsorbing charcoal on the sides of the barrels.
After several experiments with charring the wood, I started to explore the history and construction of wooden vessels. Apart from that I analysed behaviours and rituals regarding serving and drinking different kinds of liquids.
The set, containing a vessel, ladle and glasses suggests other way of serving water, inviting the users to quieten, concentrate and share the moment with other person.
The vessel is made out of spruce staves, which are kept together by 2 steel bands.
