Volunteer Park Cafe/Canal Market - Seattle, WA

I love it when I get to meet the artists creating the edible masterpieces I photograph. When Seattle Weekly sent me to the locally adored Volunteer Park Cafe (and a dish from the then yet-to-open Canal Market) I was in luck: chef and owner Ericka Burke was on hand to create the dishes herself. Not only were they made fresh barely 5 feet from where I sat with ingredients I swear could have been picked from their respective "vines" that day. The baguette was begging to be broken with that deliious crackle and the sweet, hot peppers and red cabbage had that lucious color you can't fake.

In case you're curious, the dishes I captured are the tuna sandwich, barbequed chicken sandwich (which I can personally attest is fantastic), and green eggs and ham sandwich. I haven't been to Canal Market proper yet, but I'm still admonishing myself for not capturing more of Volunteer Park Cafe's ambience and interiors. It's sweet, and I could tell the locals just absolutely adored the place. The table below is the only quirky little piece I captured. One of many good reasons to return.
