As a huge fan of both Dead Space and its sequel, I felt compelled to craft an image to honor my excitement for the inevitable third iteration. Internet blogs and news sites have already rumored that Dead Space 3 will remove its protagonist, Isaac Clarke, from the dark and shadowy environments of the first two games and crash him into the terror of a, seemingly, uninhabited planet of ice and snow.

This image was a lot of fun to make. I used royalty-free stock photography from stock.xchng to craft the background. For Mr. Clarke himself, I used a photo of a toy model from Go Figure (Toy Reviews); which I then highly edited to enhance its visual fidelity. I then tweaked the logo from Dead Space 2 to fit this piece. I will post all the stock photography I used in an upcoming blog post regarding this project.

My design goal for this was to make sure the iconic look and feel of the Dead Space franchise was maintained by putting the highly-recognizable Isaac Clarke in the foreground, however I also wanted to convey a sense of loneliness and isolation. I had worked up other concepts of Isaac fighting off Necromorphs, the series' signature monsters, in the new landscape; although I eventually felt like going for a simpler, and striking, aesthetic would benefit an overall marketing campaign to set this third game apart from its predecessors.
