Vasai - 3rd Prize - Fsc Italia Design Award

This project is the result of a study developed for participation in the competition: FSC Italia Design Awards, 3rd Edition,  with a theme about modern gardens. Vasai won the 3rd prize in the wood category, professionals section and was awarded at Expo Milano 2015.
Concept

For this project I based three main aspects: construction and disassembly, transport, simplicity. In the professional world of design, simplicity is a feature that comes after. A long anlisi and optimization leads to simplicity and that's what I'm worried to search for this project. I wanted something really simple to give people to grow their own herbs.

I built an object that can be realized by hand or using CNC machines. The quick and intuitive assembly, includes 6 joints and 8 screws and this is the result.
Wood

For minimized an environmental impacts I chose the phenolic plywood, with 15 mm thick for the interlocking parts and 8mm for those combined with screws. Pine is an easy material to work with, coomn and economic. On an equal resistance, the structures in plywood are lighter than those in solid wood, and require less use of material.

Utilization

A vase is easy to drop, especially if you're carrying, what I thought was to add to pot a couple of handles, to make
more ergonomic the transport.
To pour the plants, carry herbs in the kitchen, or grow them in the middle of the living room, with Vasai is much simpler. It is a fun hosting a small vegetable garden at home.
Thanks for watching!
