The Vinyl Project
Responding to the recent renewed popularity of vinyl records, a new 12-inch single vinyl record
collection of Cantonese pop songs is launched. Typographic packaging design is created for one of
the single, “Bad Girl Inside”.
In the title, the “bad” actually refers to silly, naughty, and maybe a little bit rude, but not evil and
wicked, the “girl” refers to the teenage singer, these point are comes from the lyrics. I believe that
colorful tone is suitable for the teenage girl, but pale color tone doesn't suits the “naughty, silly” one,
so I've picked neon color tone as the theme of this project, which contains some surprise, rock, and
out-standing meaning. In the neon color tone, pink, yellow and blue are applied in the items.
Since the title is “Bad Girl Inside”, I believe that a box set packaging is the best format to let the
audience experience the “inside” idea. Also, three photos of the singer is included in it, so there is
“bad girl” inside the box. An elegant, girlish Chinese typography is designed for the title, it creates a
big contrast with the word “bad”. Few English serif fonts are the influences of the designs.
For the song lyrics, it is printed on Post-it with a girl-handwriting font. Post-it is used because it is
one of the stationeries that teenage girl like to use. To show the naughty, silly style of the “Bad Girl”,
Post-it is stick in a unorganized way. White, a good match with neon color tone, is applied to both
the vinyl and CD to create the visual contrast.
