Environmental Type:
Create a visual identity for a selected area of your city. The predominant design element should be lettering created by yourself using inspiration found within the area. The resulting identity should reflect the essence of the area as you see and experience it.
Burnham was the environment that was the inspiration for my Typographic Brief. These images show a glance of the environment and what I was using to create and inspire my font.
After analising my images and choosing 30 ish from 400+ photos I sketched out the angles, lines and objects I could see in the photos which I could use to build my font. These are some examples of the process I took simplified.
I created 26 letter forms from the shapes I found in my photos and this developed an alphabet.
The SMP (Single Minded Proposition) I had for this project was Strength and Unity. This came from the strong bonds I associate with the Army and the feeling I got from the images I had taken there.
