OOH MAMI - Concept & Brand Development

THE PURPOSE
Three brothers approached The Playground with a vision; they wanted to create a home-style restaurant in Brisbane. They just weren’t exactly sure how to execute it. We needed to create an entire restaurant from the ground up, the name, the brand identity, the collateral and even the fit out. To make it stand out in a popular suburb already overflowing with stylish and trendy restaurants offering some fierce competition. Oh and make the solution repeatable so it can be franchised.
 
THE CHALLENGE
Convincing people to go out for home-style food.
 
THE CONNECTION
Home cooking is mums cooking, and for our brothers this meant healthy and hearty square meals to comfort you and leave you wanting more. It just happened that there is a name for the flavour that makes savoury food more delicious – that certain extra something that you just can’t describe. It’s why Australians love vegemite, the fifth taste Umami. And when we combined that word with Mammy, Ooh Mami was born. From here the design and production team went to work bringing square meals to life with the authenticity of Mami. A destination where you can see the cooks, smell the flavour, and taste food that leaves you wanting to come back again and again.
