Poetry is known to be a raw and honest form of expression. The lyrical content within the lines tends to draw emotions. Also, unaltered truths always provoke audiences deeply.
The WTF Series is a team of 12 poets recording socially conscious poetry in spoken word format to openly provoke the minds and hearts of Kenyans. We live in a digital era where everyone’s ears are plugged to a radio station, podcasts or music. We are invading that space with provocative spoken word to stir debate. A wide range of topics are going to be tackled and a panel of experts will be in place to try and demarcate them as we bring the ‘unmentionables’ in our society on the table in a bold manner.
The ‘WTF Series’, the first of its kind in Kenya, is set to launch on Thursday the 14th of May, 2015 at the Century Cinemax, Junction along Ngong Road.

01 GLADYS MWENDE - BELLA

'Bella' is a piece done by spoken word artist Gladys Mwende. She narrates how Bella plunges into an abyss of sexual addiction. Bella is enslaved by her own lust for sexual gratification. She moves from one guy to another and nobody wants to save her from herself. This piece speaks of that which the society would rather hush up.

02 MUHINZA - I MET HER ON A MONDAY

This spoken-word piece tells the sequential tale of a couple that falls in love, gets into a relationship and ties the knot after which the lady becomes pregnant. However, she loses her child and dies due to maternal health complications. Her husband is devastated.

05 NICK OLWAH - CONFESSIONS OF A DRUG ADDICT

This provocative piece by Nick Olwah is based on his battle with drug and substance abuse. He is bound in chains by drugs and feels that they empower him by giving him courage to talk to girls and particularly in front of a crowd. He is haunted by guilt due to the fact that he ends up choosing drugs over family all the time. He is in debt in order to sustain his lifestyle and ends up crying for help. Darkness is all he can see.
06 SALLY WESH - SELFIE GENERATION

Sally's compelling piece talks about the selfie generation and it's constant need for external gratification and approval by posting selfies on instagram and twitter. She urges them that they do not need to measure their beauty by the number of likes or retweets on social media. They should instead understand that they were created in God's image. #IAmTheFuture
07 VIRUSI - SAVE OUR LADIES

Save Our Ladies' is an effusive piece by spoken word artist Virusi who is angry at how our society has been treating its ladies and women in general; he bashes out at everyone and urges us to be at the forefront of protecting our ladies. They have been unfairly undressed in public, humiliated due to the choice of their dressing and even raped! He wishes that we can save our ladies instead of enslaving.
08 VANESSA - COILED

'Coiled' is a piece on Gender Violence by spoken word artist Vanessa Ombura. In 'Coiled', the lady is physically abused by her lover but she can neither leave nor tell anyone for fear of victimization and/ or further abuse. This is a well-played out scenario of what is the reality in some relationships in our society today.
09 CORRINE - HER BEST FRIEND

She cries as she is dragged out of the hut by a group of women. She is being forcefully taken for the cut which according to her culture depicts transition into womanhood. Her best friend sold her out; she didn't understand why she was running away from this painful procedure.
