This is the front cover for Ned & Samantha, a comic series I made for the CH Library in Utah. My supervisor wanted me to create a series to serve as an internal training project, thus this comic was born! The series began life in January 2014 and it stars two bumbling coworkers as they show you the ropes in the library workforce while providing some hilarious examples of what NOT to do! The cover was completed in January 2015 as the strips were compiled in book form the month after. The series is owned by the CH Library.
This was the first Ned & Samantha comic, completed in February 2014. In the CH Library the employees take the utmost care in preserving their books and various artifacts for certain projects, so the last thing they need is someone attracting ants! The Ned & Samantha comics were written, penciled, inked, colored and edited by me.
This comic was published in the CH Library on August 1, 2014. The library has very specific rules how to treat artifacts, so don't do what these two do! This comic is a throwback to the cartoons of old, which would explain the grayscale.
This Ned & Samantha comic was completed in September 2014 and it addresses the regulations in the CH Library. I create the Ned & Samantha comics by sketching the premise out in Photoshop using my Wacom tablet. Afterwards I "pencil" the layout in Photoshop using blue colors, then I ink it in black colors. When that's finished I color the panels and look for any remaining mistakes. By the way, doesn't Ned look cute as a stewardess?
This particular comic was finished in October 2014 and I changed the font as a change of pace. The font is actually my own handwriting, but it was time-consuming to keep the style consistent. On the board you can actually see Ned's passwords and private numbers.
This is the back cover of the Ned & Samantha book, completed in January 2015. It seems as though Ned never learns as those ants just won't leave him alone! Poor guy...
