Giovanni Vergantini's profile

Multicultural Center, Mancini Square, Rome

The task was to requilify a dismissed area near Mancini Square, Rome, close to Zaha Hadid's MAXXI, by designing a new multicultural center in which artists and artisans could express themselves. There had to be also a Cinema, a Library, a little restaurant and an exposition room.
I tried to design something lively and fun, creating a contrast with the usual colours of Rome's buildings. I planned a little hypogean market made of coloured containers for artisans and then I designed a building of offices and art schools which gave the idea of dynamic boxes that wanted to leave the structure.
For the Library, restaurant, exposition room and Cinema, I opted for a glass facade bulding covered by colourful brise soleil.
