Cascade instruments

The Rain-stick, an instrument of tribal origin was made from cactus bark, thorns and pebbles and was used during rituals
to call upon the rain gods. The construction of these sticks is the science behind the sound.

CASCADE, are percussion instruments. It was an experiment with sound,
structure and material that led to these final three sticks that create very distinct sounds.

CASCADE 1 makes a mild sound. The walls of the instrument are made with LDF and are pierced with iron nails. Pearl millet, is filled inside which creates the sound when it comes in contact with the nails. The slower the motion of flipping the stick, the more crisp and clear the sound.

CASCADE 2 creates a sound which slightly more loud compared to CASCADE 1. The twisted structure affects the speed at which the grains fall therefore, every grain can be distinctly heard.

CASCADE 3 makes a loud rustling sound. A double helix of toothpicks has been made inside a cardboard tube.
As pulses fall over the toothpicks, the sound gets louder.
