UHO is a compact noise measuring and protection device disguised as jewellery.
In addition to the essential function of measuring decibel frequencies of sound pressure
(or noise), the device also acts as a case for earplugs. These can then be used if noise level
is exceeded above permittable working levels. For instance at concerts or other loud
music events, the sensor on the neck-piece warns the user of the threat via LED light
signals.
Scientists frequently argue that in the near future hearing aids will be as common as
glasses are today. The two most important factors for this are an increasingly ageing
society and the spread of portable music players which are used by wearing headphones.
Loud concerts, films shown in theatres, broadcast channels with different levels of
volume and even ordinary urban noise may cause problems with hearing and
consequently lead to premature deafness. UHO is designed to change this by allowing
users to take preventative action.
