Week #49 / 52 – The Virtual Doodles Museum

What is this project about?
I recently visited my daughter who studies in Montreal and found that she had a lot of doodles on her notebook. I found them beautiful and thought I could do something fun with it. Doodles are undervalued I think, so I decided to put my daughter's doodles in a museum... a virtual one! My daughter sent me pictures of her doodles, and I used Photoshop to create the dark black and white renderings (I included close ups of the doodles below). I initially thought I would turn the doodles into vectors and may be turn them into 3D objects, but I found that the vectorization process was taking the life out of these drawings, so I stuck with the original rasters and just processed them in Photoshop.

At the same time, I learned to script Cinema 4D with Xpresso. It is a patch programming environment which lets you easily create dependencies between different objects in a 3D scene. I used Xpresso to create a simple frame object which takes the width, height, thickness of the frame and padding, and automatically configures the various objects that make us the frame. This is really poweful to avoid repetetive tasks.
