An Illustration based off a short story by Miranda July, called the Swim Team. The story, in brief, describes how the narrator teaches three elderly students how to swim. The town that they live in does not have any swimming amenities, so the narrator essentially teaches them how to swim without the use of a pool. Instead, they learn to swim in buckets of water in a living room. I wanted to convey the silliness of the story, with the idea that they were trying to learn how to swim by using buckets of water, but I also wanted to convey how seriously these elderly adults took these swimming lessons.

 

I had a fairly clear idea of how I wanted this illustration to go, however the process of working from an ink drawing into PS was new for me. I typically draw and sketch directly into PS when working digitally, but it was fun to try and bridge both working traditionally and coloring digitally.
