I wanted to try making my own comic page, as I've always been really interested in comics but not particularly successful in ever making up stories. In this particular comic spread, I started by taking a moment from reality. I was reading about a pretty terrifying article about this game where a doll is posessed by a demon, and my roommate snuck up behind me. I remember being ridiculously frightened and telling all my friends about my roommate's sneak attack, and I thought this would be a funny start to both remember this moment and try my hand at making a comic page.

A lot of the inspiration for the illustration and style came after reading Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Very Serious Earth, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Dave McKean. I was so captivated by the dark and gritty drawings that I wanted to try and utilize that same style to evoke that same sense of fright that I felt during that moment.
A series of photos that I took as a sort of mock up for the comic, that provided as a reference.
Here I experimented with the layout of the comic and how I wanted the panels to be formatted.
The final drawing for the comic that I was finally happy with. I made a pretty clear separate final drawing for the comic, where I established how light and dark I wanted the values to be.
The final drawing comic spread, that I was extremely happy with. I had a lot of fun trying to work with a different style than what I usually do. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to comic making but I enjoyed making this a lot.
