'Quarantina' - A pre/during diptych

'QUARANTINA' - A PRE / DURING DIPTYCH

Below is an image I created while in lockdown. The idea was to create a Diptych image of life pre/during quarantine.

I used one of my existing illustrations of a girl in her bedroom drawing and added to it with an alternative time.

I wanted to convey a message with these two images which was during quarantine a lot of people have been learning to appreciate what we once took for granted. In this image, pre-quarantine, the girl (Quarantina) is seen relaxing in nature on a sunny day, however, she’s ignoring the natural wonders of her surroundings and choosing to be absorbed in her mobile phone.
In the post-quarantine side, she is seen on her bed with the window wide open, blasting through sunlight. On her bed she is obsessively drawing scenes of nature which is symbolic of her realising how much she misses the ability to be outside and now appreciates what she once took for granted.

E N J O Y !
Original sketch design with alternative thumbnail ideas.

The basic linework laid out.

More junk added to the room with the linework neatened up.
I also added my own design of the girl to the image - I was originally hired to design the background only.

Light from the window added along with the focus on the girls drawings.

I decided to add a secondary shadow and darken the carpet to add more depth and variety.
Also I added a fill  to the the gril character to draw focus to her.

The final design - wallpaper pattern added, linework lightened, running shoe fill added and also an overall texture.

Basic linework
Background colour filled in.
Next layer of colour added.
Shadow and shading brought in.
Final image with overall texture and blanket pattern added.

Hope you enjoyed this. I go more in depth about the creative process for my work on my site:
