This project was a complete reconstruction of a burned out and abandoned row-house in the South End of Boston.
The site for the Brennen residence was a typical builders estate, in this case of fairly expensive homes of no particular architectural merit, each lot being about one acre. However the client was able to buy two adjacent lots, which enabled the creation of a central private outdoor space around which the house was planned.

The core of the house was a passive solar space which acted as the focal point of the house, being the space around which most of the informal activity centered. The solar room extended through two stories and connected to the family bedroom level above. The central court with the solar glazing can be seen above.
