These are two reverse glass gilded signs that were made in 2011. The background on the right panel is glue chipped and also the lettering on the left panel. Both pieces were first embossed with the glue chip technique and then I curved them under heat in my kiln to bend them into curved glass. All the lettering was hand cut and hand painted traditionally . The gold leaf was applied last.
Two large mirrors I made a few years back. Mostly cut glass and acid etching with gold leaf and chemical silvering.
This glass panel was made in 2010 as a commission piece for a fellow signwriter. I posted some close up shots of this panel just recently. The lettering is acid etched and the background is glue chip embossed and then silvered. The artwork was hand painted and screened. I used a photo reference to make an engraved looking image for the traction engine ,it was them hand painted . All the lettering is water gilded along with some of the details and scrolls receiving brilliant cutting. It was a fun project to make
A glass gilded Reverse painted sign made in 2003 for an upholster . The acid work was made face side down to cause unevenness across the letters over 4 hours. Various other techniques were used for this ornate panel.
Slightly better image of this glass gilded and mirror piece made a few years back. Techniques are white acid etching and brilliant cutting. The horses were painted and with traditional verr eglomise treatments. Fun to make!
This is the letter L that I made on a panel of glass 6ft by 4ft. It was made for a museum in Liverpool , England. It was for the Poet Edward Lear. The letter has a combination of cut glass and etching along with mother of pearl and hand shading. The work is all hand painted and water gilded in various crystal of Gold Leaf. Thanks for the interest in this craft known as SIgnwriting and glass embossing.
These are two talented people that came here recently on my glass gilding workshop. It's a 3 day workshop which runs monthly.
Made this little panel in plate glass. The details are all acid etched into the glass and then the piece was slumped/curved in my kiln. All the black and gold treatments were made last.
This is the front page to my website. It's hand made from sketches to finished artwork. I also made a digital version. All made in 2010.
I made this test panel for Burberry in London. The glass is reverse painted and gilded using 1900 techniques from an old book. I at to slump the glass to a curved half round shape in my kiln, it was a nerve racking experience but came out great! All lettering is acid etched , brilliant cut and gilded backwards. 2013
