Handloom Weaving

A young daughter at the age of eight recieves her first handloom from her father. She begins her tryst with handlooms and carrying the tradition forward, she gifts one to her child. This culture in India is fascinating and is considered sacred. My love for woven fabrics grew as I ventured into the stream of textiles. Introduction to weaving techniques was quite remarkable as I worked on the concept of African attire.
A flash of colors and the accessories made of beads and mirrors mark the uniqueness of African tribes. Multiple patterns in contrasting colors adorned by the tribes are what I have tried to weave into my samples .The hues and tints of lemon yellow and cherry red dominate my samples. Blue and yellow beads compliment my theme. The bright colors that stand out in the dried earthy shades of their surroundings were the colors which are highlighted in the woven samples.

The vibrant colors on the dark skinned tribes are my inspiration with a  blend of beads and mirror work.
Experimentation with cotton silk and wool with a chain of beads and mirrors.
