Matt Kay is a photographer based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Matt’s work is wonderfully
mercurial and autobiographical; depicting the passing of people and places through time in
portraits and landscapes. His work is his claim to being present. Matt has exhibited both nationally
and abroad, and has been the recipient of various awards and fellowships.
Our project consisted of the design of a wordmark and a website focussed on showcasing Matt’s
work. We designed a horizontally oriented website, that made use of white space and elegant
typography to avoid distraction from the work. We developed a fully responsive website and
included a facility for users to toggle between black and white backgrounds while viewing the work.
