In the deep night and first hours of 8. of September 2014, we gathered in front of HNK (Croatian National Teather) , willing to do something nasty. We wanted to give some sort of a „birthday present“ for a fellow artist and colleague that is part of TWS aswell. For security reason, we'll leave the birthday boy anoynmous, but all we can say is that he is a great artist and he deserved such present. We made 21 wooden cross out of plankets that we found around, and instead of a birthday cake with 21 candles, we decorated HNK garden in a true manner of Trash Will Smash, since HNK is our usual hang-out spot.
We waited for a good moment when silence was the loudest, and did our performance – planting 21 cross on the beautiful lawn in front of HNK. Not only we did this because of our friend, but we wanted also to send critic for design and overall look of newly built Musical academy, that's right across HNK and that's stabbing innocent people's eyes with its „modernity“.
We found it unattractable and wanted to send a friendly artist joke.
As well with unbelievable stroke of having friend's birthday on the first working day of Academy, we also aligned with the full moon and the first working day of a new quatermaster of HNK, Dubravka Vrgoč. On this ocassion, we want to tell the truth and deny all the rumors that was appearing on some websites – this project WAS NOT made to strike against, spread scary message, or to incriminate the coming of Vrgoč. In fact, we didn't even know that HNK has changed the quatermaster, and that her first working day was the day of our performance, but anyhow, we were joking with the fact that this lady had to answer few tricky question because of us. We want to distance from all political groups who prescribe our work as theirs. Although crosses were moved the same morning, within 5 hours of exposure, the output it had on people was tremendous so much that they made up stories about this. It's funny how easy is to provoke such thing, and it gives you right light on journalism and newsreporting – how it can be incredibly fake.
