DESIGN BRIEF AND CONCEPT
The Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, IISC, Bangalore was established as a department on its own in 2010. The department is involved in cutting edge research in Nano science and imparts some of the best education in India on the subject of Nano-technology.
The brochure for the department was to reflect the same. The brochure was to be circulated amongst professionals in the industry, eminent leaders, prospective students and visitors.
The assignment included a photo shoot for the brochure. The design was to be modern. A certain level of formality to be maintained, yet the design brief very clearly specified that the design was to be something more offbeat and not a typical technical institute brochure.
A color palette was chosen to include the most commonly encountered colors in the laboratories - teal and amber. A triangular, geometric pattern was kept as a repetitive element to create interest and un-box the design layout.
The cover page for the brochure was to graphically signify a typical work flow at the centre: !1) start with a material, (2) fabricate something in the clean room, you may characterize them, (3) make a device out of them, and then (4) build a whole packaged system.
The images were selected as such, and a cover page was designed to continue with the geometric theme.
