A 60 Second History of Seville - Animation

A 60 Second History of Seville
Cambridge School of Art - 2011 - 6 weeks

A 60 second History of Seville was born out of a class trip I took to Spain in 2011. The trip was designed for us to document a place in detail so we could generate work afterwards; a demonstration of how important first hand experiences are to illustration and creative work in general.

The cultural melting pot that is Seville was, for me, overwhelming. It was very hot, claustrophobic, and a little nauseating to be honest. I initially struggled to find something in the experience that I could draw on to make an animation. In the end what struck me most was how everything seemed to come from different times and cultures in history; a city of perpetual invasion and accumulation.

After an unsually protracted development, I focused on using collage materials I brought back from Seville along with direct reference photos of architecture and crafts to quickly explore how Seville had ended up the way it is today.
Thanks for watching!
