This is an assignment for basic illustration class.
The brief is to illustrate a current social or/and economic phenomenon in Indonesia.
This artwork is about the gold mining at Papua, Indonesia. There were so much gold on Papua's mountains that researchers call it "The Gold Mountain". The gold is even spread along the surfaces of the mountain and when the sun rises, the mountain shines, literally as a mountain of gold.
However, Indonesian government made a deal to allow foreign miners, mainly from the USA to extract gold from Papua. A study says that the gold supply in Papua will only be sufficient until 2040 while the deal is said to be extended until 2041. When the time comes, Papua will be left with nothing but mercury excess from the mining process.
