Bollywood to Bangalore

The following project was done for a class project which was to visualize Bangalore City in a set of postcards

THE CONCEPT
My idea was to make a set of postcards which visually show Bollywood Movies that were shot in Bangalore. From the very beginning, postcards have always been about travelling and new places. Bollywood movies is something everyone in India connects to and to show the places where it has been shot in Bangalore will be exciting and inviting for the audience. I think it can be used to promote the tourism of Bangalore as well.

Since I enjoy doing handlettering and hand painted typography, and for this project, I have applied that for this project. I wanted the same look and feel of the type in old bollywood posters, so I decided to hand paint the movie titles. It took a lot of observation skills to aim and get the same look and feel of the type from the old posters.
Photo and colour manipulation done digitally.
Bangalore City is shown as a backdrop for a lot of the scenes in Andha Kanoon.
Few of the scenes of the movie Qayamat se Qayamat tak were set in Bangalore City.
The song ‘Dhadang Dang’ from the movie Rowdy Rathore was shot in the Bangalore Palace.
Ghayal showed major landmarks of the Bangalore City and as a backdrop for the movie.
Mard was one of the old movies which highlighted landmarks of Bangalore City like the High Court and its greenery.
The movie Coolie was set in Bangalore City and the cities Railway Platform became a highlight.
A Part of the movie was situated in Bangalore City and it shows landmarks like Freedom Park, Town Hall and Seshadri Iyer Memorial Hall.
The movie Sholay was shot near Bangalore City, in Ramanagar, and yet the movie really catapulted Bangalore.
The movie Yalgaar was shot in Feroz Khan’s Old House in Bangalore.
Bangalore City is shown as a backdrop for a some of the scenes in the movie Loha.
