Intense Reading
Year: December 16, 2014
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 28*40 inches

This painting combines my personal style with two
classical painting techniques, which are Baroque, and
Renaissance techniques. I majorly used Renaissance
technique on the first stage of painting this. I glazed,
which I learned from practicing Baroque technique, on
the second stage for finishing up the painting.

I painted this piece when noticing my realism portraits
are lacking personality and connection with viewers. I
gave this painting a sense of emotion and a relatively
complex environment created by patterns to capture
audiences' eyes. I also combined my personal strokes
and palette into this painting to enhance the motion and
emotion of the figure. Moreover, the painting is to refer
that children these days do not read books as the older
generation did. I am trying to express my concern on the
youth losing their ability of self‑studying through this
portrait of my cousin, who gets inpatient when asked to
read a book.

Mother
Year: 2014
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size: 20*20 inches

This painting is painted using Renaissance‑painting
technique. The painting is to express my emotion of
missing my family, especially my mother. I painted her
with a powerful and strict look to show how tough and
strong she is to me.

City Paper: Top Ten
Year: 2014
Medium: Digital illustration, Ink pen on paper
Size: 10*10 inches

This is an illustration for City Paper issues "top ten" for
the past 2014. I featured the raven, Inner Harbor, and
crabs to represent the city as well as different fields. For
instance, the raven is to represent the mascot of the
Baltimore Raven team. I finished the line works with ink
pen and colored the image using adobe Photoshop. I
applied opaque color palette for the color might print
out dimmer on newsprint than it is on computer screen.

Size: 10*10 inches

This is a refined line work for City Paper Cover. I have
included small elements representing different fields of
top ten.
