The Spicery – Packaging

Start
The Spicery is an exploration in packaging design that combines personal history, branding, and language. The challenge involves design and production of a brand and packaging for a set of 3 herbs/spices that are used in a particular dish of the designer’s choosing. Furthermore, the overall must create an experience for the consumer similar to the memory that sparked the identity.

As a brand, The Spicery takes advantage of rustic and hand-drawn elements to convey a sense of history and authenticity. The final design is a two-panel carryout box that houses three glass shakers, a recipe, and an ingredients list. The overall style reflects the history of the dish and the memories surrounding it, while at the same time being conscious of the materials being used.

End
A bit of history: Birria is a Mexican dish that originated in the state of Jalisco. Restaurants and street carts are known as birrierias and are most commonly found in Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco. Birria plays a large role in the cultural identity of jalisciences and tapatíos (the people of Jalisco and Guadalajara, respectively).
