Baby Axioo is one of the greatest photography service for baby, kids, maternity and family in Indonesia. Last September, they contact me via email. They'd like to have a collaboration for an exhibition from 20-26 October 2014 at Miniapolis, Plaza Indonesia. Fen Soong, the co-founder and also photographer at Baby Axioo, has an idea for vintage circus/carnival display inside the giant pop-up book booth.
First of all, it sounds so simple, vintage circus. That's it. Now, try to google it and you'll find lot of brown, B&W and dusty colors, old paper texture, old school clowns, maroon-yellow tents and instagram's filtered-look-images. I don't want to make or remake something that I could easily find through Google Image. I want to make this project to be remembered well and has it's own finger print. This is absolutely challenging for me as a Designer and Illustrator to surpass things the internet has shown me for that keyword.
I'll say, knowing my partner (client) is the most important thing to get the key to unlock the locked-invisible-idea amongst us.
For this case, luckily I knew her and her husband since 2013 when they bought my Little Postman book at Popcon Asia 2013 and I'm following her feeds on Instagram. So I already knew it, she likes fairy tales and Alice's Adventure in Wonderland so much. Something has clicked inside of me and I decided to fuse both elements. Circus and Alice. Hopefully, everytime you heard this project's name, you'll see these colors, these rusty-gold ornaments and Wonderland elements in your mind.

60% Vintage Circus + 40% Alice's Adventure in Wonderland
= 100% Alice's Special Time in Vintage Circus.
