THE PRACTICAL PRINCESS - An apron collection based around the fictional character the Practical Princess. Princess P (for short) has escaped royal duties and disappeared to a small far away island hidden from the world by fog. She lives a solitary but happy existence on the island working to maintain the island plant life (she has claimed the island as her garden). The drawings and pattern collection were all inspired by the flora and fauna that may be growing on the fictional island. The collection consists of screen printed and digitally printed fabrics onto 100% cotton and embellished with velvet ribbon. The apron patten was inspired by a 1950's children's apron that I redesigned whilst taking part in a pattern cutting course. The apron concept was used to suite the character of the Practical Princess who I felt would need a utilitarian garment to aide with her gardening (I exaggerated the pocket sizes so she could fit tools and plants in them) that would also reflect the beauty of her beloved island.
