Trash Will Smash/ One Night Exhibition

ABOUT TRASH WILL SMASH

Trash Will Smash is an art collective gathered around mutual love for street art, tattoos, photography and not giving a fuck. Collective is based in Zagreb, consisting of young and unafirmed artists that circled around Vinogradska 43, old legendary house where whole idea started. At first it was used as street art ateliers and design company, then later as tatoo studio. Although idea of TWS wasn't born at this time, it was still crucial for developing of whole collective – it was a place where you could freely express yourself, or popped in at any time and see the crowd workin' and chillin'. Vinogradska 43 was active for 2 years, and later due to ownership problems we had to move out, and that's where whole idea of TWS was born – we wanted to say proper goodbye to this magic house, where all of us felt like home. We gathered artists that was vital part of whole our scene – Artu Ditu gang (Smelly Feet, Kopito Zla, Mop Hap), Cao, Pilj, Pile, Zagi, Džedaj, Cu, Lav, Bins and Neven Aljinović-Tot – and made a huge one-night exhibition on 2 floors, naming it Trash Will Smash. Our love for rough, trashy tattoo style, as well as street art and street and staged photography finally was shown to wider audience. We exhibited over 300 artworks. First floor was made as modern, street art exhibition, highlighting our years in Vinogradska, while second floor was something completely different. Due to electricity problems on second floor, we made horror exhibition in dark, something completely contrary to the first floor. We let small groups of people with flashlights to explore dark walls, that was covered with our artowrks. It is important to notice that this exhibition was contemporary in all its senses – it included drawings, paintings, graphics, tattoo designs, collages, instalations, sculptures, photography, street art and few more medias – and on this way we showed somewhat dark and gritty side of modern art. Although exhibtion was one-night only, „pretty underground“ and was promoted only as Facebook event, we gathered around 350 people that night and enjoyed the fruits of our labor. Because of such positive feedback, we decided to continue our sacred art mission and gathered around TWS collective. Although Vinogradska is history, we work on different locations now, and already made few public-space instalations, pushing our work onto the streets more actively, where it always belonged.
