Starting in 2000, the touristic service of Ostend organises every year a 'Halloweenfestival'. Numerous shows, parties, 'theme'-shopping and workshops are programmed to entertain the tourists during the end of October. As 'corporate image'-designer of the touristic service of Ostend (during 1999 till 2005), I was part of the team that launched this event.

The family character of the festival is essential in the event-concept. A lot of events are aimed at children with their parents and grandparents, so the visual communication had to be very child-friendly; freaky characters and realistic scenes were out of the question.

The main visual of the third edition (2002) is a photo of a Frankenstein-figure I already developped in 2001. That year, a lot of well-known moviecharacters (The Frankenstein Monster, Scream, Wolfman, Freddy Krueger, Alien...) were introduced in the festival to represent the different participating streets and quartiers of Ostend. I made a sort of logo-sign in comic-style of each character, which could be used by shops and organizers (according to the street they are active). I even made a 3D-'prop' of The Frankenstein Monster, which was used by the Touristic Service to decorate their office. The Frankenstein-character has a bit of a 'Hergé-sort-of-style', so it feels like my little, modest hommage to the world-known creator of Tintin, of my home country Belgium...
In 2002 I used it as main image in the whole Halloween-campaign.

The layout and typography are entirely based on the Touristic Offices' corporate identity of that period. The challenge with this sort of event-poster, is to order a lot of information in a way that everything get its necessary exposure, without ending it up in a total mixup :-)
