Harrdy | Animated Short

Motion Graphics
Harrdy is my first short-movie. It was really fun to make it, and now it’s my huge pleasure to be able to share it with you. Hope you enjoy it! :-)
Arr, the Pirate

A grumpy, unlucky pirate who wishes to be acknowledged as a true leader by his people. He walks formally, like a real captain, always looking down at the others with superiority. He’s not very skilled, though. He uses a walking stick, but it is just for the style. A really pompous man.

People never took him seriously, and because of this he was never able to have his own crew. When all his hope is gone he finds a map that leads to a special treasure, a legendary fruit, an item that could make him a notable conqueror!

Without thinking twice, the pirate heads for the sea in his small boat and sails to the most exotic island of the seven seas!
Howdy, the Lumberjack

A naive, happy, and quirky lumberjack. He has a really friendly and cute face. He loves the nature, to make new friends, and also loves to eat fruits! A really sensible guy. His dream is to collect enough wood to build something big and awesome – he hasn’t decided what yet.

Although he’s a lumberjack he doesn’t cut trees – he just gather kindling and logs he finds along the island. He’s always looking for lumber in the wrong spot. His past, as well as the reason that he is living in the exotic island, is a real mystery.
The Sceneries

The exotic island is filled with colourful trees, flowers and weird animals. This place holds a lot of secrets and is not very well explored, as it offers a lot of unpredictable dangers for uninformed adventurers! Exploring this island can be really rewarding, though. A beautiful place to stay, an exciting spot to explore!
I swear I didn't hurt them.

The characters were sliced to make the rig for animation. Without this I wouldn’t be able to reuse the same puppet to do all the things I needed too! Don’t forget there are many more layers created that are not visible in this image: different mouths, hands and details also needed to be made one by one.
In total, there is more than 50 layers for Captain and 40 layers for Howdy.
Thank you!

This project wouldn’t be a reality if it wasn’t for some very special friends.
Special thanks to: Taco Van Loon, Nikola Pilipovic, Chris Oatley, Saxion University, Caio Chagas, Lucas Rasera, João Schultz, Isabella de Lião, and my family. :-)
