Chase Bank Hologram Case Study

The Challenge
Chase Freedom Card was looking to publicize its 1% cash back promotion to a wide range of people in a retail environment. They had great equity with the very likeable and recognizeable "Ben" - the Chase Freedom guy from their TV commercials, and wanted his presence at malls across the country. The challenge GMR Marketing presented to us involved getting Ben in as many malls at the same time.
The Strategy
We created a virtual banker by projecting a pre-recorded video of Ben onto a life-size, Ben-shaped acrylic screen. Using the latest high-definition front projection technology, Ben was seen surprising shoppers by suddenly coming to life at malls across the country. Shoppers were taken aback by how real the projection was, with some even talking back to Ben.
The immersive "is he real?" aspect of the virtual banker created a huge buzz and kept shoppers entertained, informed and engaged at each mall that virtual Ben made an "appearance."
The Results
Smiles and chatter all around. Countless shoppers were amused and captivated by virtual Ben. The unusual and unexpected method of message delivery allowed Ben to keep his audience engaged while he educated them about the features and benefits of the Chase Freedom Card. All of which worked to motivate them to find out more as evidenced by increased dwell time and brochure/application form pick up.
