photos & snaps
a devilish itch
Photography is the devil in me. A devilish itch.
I grew up analogical, with black & white memories.
In my first make-shift dark room, on top of an old washing machine, the alchemy of gelatines was like magic to me. Images appearing in the chemical bath like rabbits out of a hat.
I love hunting for snapshots. Foggy days, steamy rock gigs, accidental patterns,deceptive lights and lurid contrasts are what fascinates me.
Why didn’t I choose photography as my job? I’m not really sure. Perhaps it was a passion that I wanted to protect from the inevitable every day demands of a “job”. Like a secret lover.
I have, however, crossed paths with the profession many times over the years:
… as an assistant - while at Uni - to rock photographer Giovanni Canitano;
… as food and wine stylist in Rome;
… as Photo Editor for Farmacia magazine;
… as contributor to Gambero Rosso, the food and travel magazine which helped develop the Slow Food movement;
… and even as feeder of photographers with my catering company Fishsoup (regular clients included Mario Testino, Nick Knight, Juergen Teller and many others.)
I am inordinately fond of family snapshots and I adore searching for narratives and hidden meanings behind the pose.
To indulge in my habit I have set up a SNAPBLOG that I use as a net to catch moods and ideas.
