Colourful Cities

A project about cities, and how they always feel different from each other.

I sometimes think, that every city that I ever visited, felt differently. Wondering, how this could be - is it the weather, the people, the overall sitation – I started collecting pictures from several city-trips. My brother helped me – he developed an algorythm that calculates the main colour of every picture that is taken. And - as a surprise - cities that felt similar, had similar colour-codes. It seemed to fit. At least for me it was enough explanation.

The vision is, to have a platform, where people can upload their snapshots of the city they're at at the moment, that picture is split up in it's main colour in real time, and the 'average' colour is adaptet in real time. so, maybe this platform will be able to create a colour coded world-map.

So far, i had a 'small' amount of photos to start with. With all the data i collected so far, I made double sided posters. On the cover you see the skyline of the city, and the background colour is the calculated main colour of the city. On the back of the poster you have the main 'colour code' of the city. The bigger the area the colour has, the more exists in this city. The smaller the area, the more insignificant is the amount of this colour in this city. (To keep it real, I noted how many photos of these cities I have so far on the back of the poster as well - of course these colour codes will change, the more photo-data we have)

So far I have photos & the colour codes of:
Berlin, Prag, Barcelona, Washington, Paris, Vienna, New York, New Orleans, Delhi, San Francisco, Nice, Frankfurt

Our problem so far is the component 'time - my brother is the programming mind of this project, and we don't have so much time to think on it. The other prolem that is keeping us back the most is, where and how to launch this thing. We even thought about letting this website work together with a social network. This could be nice.

Note: These Posters show already both pages, Cover on the left, backside on the right!
It still has a very rough look, because I didn't want to go so deep into 'designing' these posters -
because they are not the ultimate product we work for, the website will be.

A nice, colour- & playful project. It still has a very raw look, since I didn't want to go too deep into 'designing' it, because we still want to Read More
