A small kitchen knife that was a prototype for many processes for me.
The blade is made from 15N20 steel that has a good amount of edge retention and an increased nickel content to help slow down corrosion from acid. It is a carbon steel rather than a stainless, which offers a higher potential hardness.
The boslters are made from damascus steel that I forged under the watchful eye of a bladesmithing friend of mine. Damascus steel is a combination or two or more steels that are forge welded together, fusing them at an atomic level. The two steels react differently to acid creating a striped look. I etched them very subtley on this blade however the pattern can be made much more bold.
The handle is made from curly Koa. A wonderfully beautiful timber, which under the right light comes alive and has a real lustrous quality. It is held to the blade with two mosaic pins.
