Karo - The Birthday Donation Site

KARO, the Birthday Donation Site For Animals

This was a prototype I finally had a chance to fully flesh out from site frame to design using  Fireworks for my Interactive I class!

As I was designing Karo, I kept on making changes that were both equal parts design and logical usability edits from the original wireframes and concepts which include but are not limited to:

Brief overview:
Karo is a nonprofit user-driven donation portal inspired by the life of a real dog.

People donate a birthday and all potential gift values associated with it to an animal charity of their choice. The charities are pre-chosen by the birthday person via a familiar wedding / gift registry setup. Once the birthday donation is initiated, a donation ID is generated and communication is sent out to friends using the vehicle(s) of your choice such as email or facebook, twitter, and etc. All your friends have to do is go to the site, find your birthday request and donate to the shelters you have pre-chosen. They can also then start their own donation wish.

What if we all gave up just 1 birthday in a lifetime? An average person has 130* friends on facebook, imagine they all participated...
Karo was first just a concept, laid out in descriptions, sketches and ideas. These slides show the beginning stages from a quote to the first site sketch.
All sites should start with a siteframe. Here I organize the content by tab, isolate repeating elements and create information hierarchy.
Wireframe mockup of the entry page which starts with a real-time birthday donation counter.
Wireframe mockup of the homepage which features static elements as well as dynamic content with stories, amounts raised, and shelter lists.
Wireframe mockup of the separate small log-in window for existing birthday wishes.
Wireframe mockup outlining the steps, information needed and overall directional information to set up a birthday donation.
