Chisa Nyama | Braai4Heritage Music Video

---About the video
“Chisa Nyama” is Zulu for “braai” or to burn meat.... (I cannot equate it to the word... 'barbecue'. That would be an insult to South Africans!)

24 September, South Africans celebrate their 'braai' heritage. Few bands in South Africa are as deserving of being the composers of the official Braai4Heritage song as Zinkplaat and Tidal Waves.

As a last minute stand-in for a great filmmaker,
Wim Steytler, I got the opportunity to record the launch event for this song and to edit the video, which was to be broadcast on television to promote Braai4Heritage.

---About the song
Earlier this year the two bands collaborated at the University of Stellenbosch’s Woordfees in a groundbreaking set featuring two drummers, two bassists, four guitarists and seven vocalists. Shortly thereafter the king of Braai, Jan Scannel, saw the bands playing together and sharing instruments and microphones. He invited them to write and perform the official Braai4Heritage theme song.

The bands spent an entire Sunday in the studio recording all the instruments and vocals in six different languages, while Jürgen mixed through the night so that the song could be ready for its 15 September launch in Kayamandi outside of Stellenbosch.
