During a holiday trip to the historic city of Istanbul, Lombard created this creative edit from random footage taken with his iPhone 4. The film shows Lombard’s sense for narrative visual story telling, being able to fashion a narrative from seemingly disparate images.

During the belly dance sequence you will notice some abstract sunlit images. These shots were taken during a trip into the city on the back of the scooter of Turkish film critic, Burcin Yalcin. Lombard taped his iPhone to the front of the scooter, while clinging on for dear life as they weaved through the crazy Istanbul traffic. As they arrived, Lombard was highly disappointed to find that the iPhone recorded with the front facing camera, instead of the back HD camera that was facing the road. Consequently, it only caught the reflections on the paint of the scooter! But it was a Greek art collector who noticed its ‘avant garde’ qualities and Lombard realized that the footage can actually be used if one finds the correct context!

A special thanks to Nic van der Westhuizen who added his creative touch during the filming of the scenes at Cape Town airport.
