I took this image which was used for a bus stop billboard advert using a mix of natural window light and flash to balance the shadows and make the food 'pop'. Part of the brief was to include some of the view, so it had to be taken by the window. However, I selected a shallower depth of field with an aperture of f5.6 so that the background (which is secondary) was soft and the main subject (the burger and fries) remained sharp.
I feel that it is successful as an image as the picture is strong with nothing to compete with the dish, which has to be the main subject. There is enough negative space around the image for text and logos. There is also some colour with the slad and sauce in the burger and a muted soft-focus backdrop to give a hint at a nice location.
