Image 1.
Taken on a rainy morning in an alley which was lit by a single light.
The image was taken in a noir-style and was intended to be interpreted as a potential crime drama/mystery shot where someone is lying in wait for a victim.
I could have changed the look and feel of the Photo by using a higher viewpoint, less contrast and including an umbrella with the subject walking down the alleyway. This would totally alter the perception of the photo.
The way it was taken and the post-production manipulation to enhance the contrast and the orange tones are appropriate for this genre.

Image 2.
This photo of lights along a seafront was taken at dusk and was intended to be a pleasing photo that shows the trail lights of traffic and the urban landscape at night.
You'd be forgiven if you thought it was a bustling scene from an urban city. In reality there were two cars going up and down an empty seafront of a coastal town.
If I had taken the image with a fast shutter then there would be no light trails to suggest a busy location.
The use of a long exposure to create a pleasing nightscape is justified in this image.
