Wellington City Libraries Suggestion System

This dossier analysed the current experience of the Wellington City Library experience, and explored ways to make it more accessible to our target audience of young adult readers.

We established there was a cycle of young readers, which we explained with a library card metaphor. There were the:

_Checked Out, who still enjoy reading but want a more inspirational expereince.

_On Loan, who want a more social atmosphere so they can balance their busy life with the library

_Expired, who have left the Library behind in favour of more interactive environments, like social media.

We then created the Suggestion System that would be a service offred by the library to young adults. This system would connect with social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and feed popular hashtags and likes used by the young adult, and their friends, into suggestions of reading material, and also other events/ products/ workshops featured at the Library.

This idea takes the growing trend of liking/hashtagging by young adults, and turnsit into a helpful and functional way to get users back to the Library and using its many services.
