A project from my Bachelor degree at Solent University.

My approach for this project was to make a pattern that was based on the old traditional
Rose-painting (also known as rosemaling) from Norway.
I wanted to renew the pattern
and make it fit the style of Scandinavian design today,
as I was researching the movement for a year.

The design should be simple, characteristic and be used on everyday items.
I choose to screen-print my design onto a kitchen towel.

THE RESULT:

I spent a lot of time sketching up different ideas and making the original pattern
as simple as possible, but keeping the shapes that characterized it as a rose-painting pattern.
My final result ended up being a stylized version where I used the lines into the pattern to create shapes. By choosing bright and modern color combination the pattern would fit perfectly into what we see as Scandinavian design today.

The design got screenprinted on the fabric. This was the first time I screenprinted on fabric and I had to try a lot of time to get it right as its a big difference from screenprinting on paper. I choose to print on white cotton fabric bought online.
