Context

This project was a research-based initiative that took place in the course of a semester for the class Atelier 4 : visualisation d'information (DES-2624) of Université Laval Graphic Design Bachelor Degree.

In a team of two (my collaborator was Alexis Major), we were mandated to research the subject of urban transport, more specifically in Québec City, Québec, Canada. The final proposal needed to demonstrate data and facts on the subject for communication purposes, mostly visualized into appropriate information graphics.

"There are countless [actual and relevant] topics related to transportation in Quebec City that deserve to be covered and that have the potential to become very high quality visualizations."
― Class project mandate excerpt.

Research subject (fictional)

Quebec City has decided to ban car traffic in its downtown area.
(Idea taken from current development and news on the subject, but more specifically from the podcast Les idées dangereuses #001, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois.)

This decision is an attempt to:
- Reduce the city' overall ecological footprint;
- Reduce travel time, particularly during rush hours;
- Counter car dependancy and urban sprawl.

Communication objectives

The target audience for this project was the city and its suburb citizens and drivers, but also its public transport users. Both were (fictionally) affected by the context of the choosen subject.

To counter potential backlash and favour the (fictional) project mission, the communicated information had to inform, convey and raise awareness among the population about the impacts of car solitary usage and the distinction between fuel, electric and urban transport methods.

Duration

~ 16 weeks / 16-18 hours per week
