Brighton City Branding

Brighton and Hove City Branding

In recent decades, graphic art has proliferated, significantly influencing societal decisions, emotions, and opinions. Design has evolved into a powerful tool for enhancing conditions and shaping perceptions. Today, major cities recognize the necessity of a distinctive visual identity to unify diverse elements and showcase their unique attributes to the world. Acknowledging this trend, I propose a concept project to develop a beautiful and distinctive visual language for Brighton, one of England's premier tourist destinations.

To embark on this endeavor, I delved into Brighton's rich history and its significance to its residents. It became evident that Brighton embodies multifaceted identities, ranging from a haven for teenagers to a luxurious retreat, but universally celebrated for its essence of "Freedom."

Recognizing the challenge of encapsulating Brighton's diverse character into a singular design, I chose to develop multiple brand identities. For the initial set, I focused on conveying the city's spirit of freedom, drawing inspiration from its iconic beachscape. Utilizing the organic shapes of beach stones, I aimed to create not just a logo, but an entire identity system encompassing posters, pictograms, typefaces, websites, and more, cohesively representing Brighton's brand.

This concept project aims to produce an outcome that best represents Brighton, with the potential for implementation by the city council. I aspire to enrich the city's visual landscape and invite visitors to experience its unique charm.

Through this project, I endeavor to contribute to the enhancement of Brighton's identity, reflecting its essence and allure to a global audience.
Among all the sketches and ideas that I had for the project, I decided to use this one because of the forms that it has which can reflect the freedom and different parts of the city and culture of Brighton. I started to study the form of the stones on the beach to see how they look and how I can change their form into something more abstract and modern. I thought it would be a great choice for representing the face of Brighton, is free, a bit playful, and modern.
Typeface
Another thing that is really important for a brand in most areas is the unique typeface which can make a huge difference and reflect a better face of the brand. For the typeface of this project I tried to keep the form of stones in the beach and create a typeface with more free forms than the standard ones
